Rosie, the beloved motorcycle-riding English bulldog, captured the hearts of many in Rochester with her joyous rides on her “Dad’s” Harley, sporting sunglasses and a smile. Despite her rough start at a puppy mill in Russia, Rosie’s journey took a remarkable turn when she was rescued and adopted by a loving family in New Hampshire.
Her story began in 2003 when she was flown to the United States at just six weeks old, destined for a life of neglect and profit. However, fate intervened when she was rescued by the NHSPCA from dire conditions in a Bedford home. Amidst the rescue of several bulldogs, one little white pup named Maura caught the eye of a retiree, who knew she had found the perfect companion for her husband.
After a long wait filled with uncertainty, Maura, now known as Rosie, finally found her forever home. The bond between Rosie and her new family blossomed, leading to a unique adventure that involved motorcycle rides. Equipped with a custom-built carrier on the back of the Harley, complete with all the comforts and safety measures, Rosie embarked on a journey that spanned over 75,000 miles in the next decade.
Her presence on the motorcycle not only brought smiles to onlookers but also served a deeper purpose. When her “Dad” faced health challenges following a car accident, Rosie’s intuitive nature shone through as she alerted him to oncoming seizures, providing him with a sense of security and companionship during a difficult time.
Reflecting on Rosie’s impact, her family expressed gratitude to the NHSPCA for rescuing her and allowing them to be part of her life. Dr. Bill Lowe at Broadview Animal Hospital also received praise for his dedicated care over the years. Rosie’s legacy as a loyal companion and a source of joy to many lives on, even after her passing.
As the community mourns the loss of Rosie, her memory lives on through the countless lives she touched and the joy she brought to all who crossed her path. Her story serves as a reminder of the resilience and love that animals can offer, transcending boundaries and leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known her.
